Merlin

Merlin is amazing! So sweet, bright and
loving... He had been dearly loved by his former owner, who had a young child, plus a
full-time job. She knew she could not provide what Merlin deserved, so she contacted MMR
to find him the very best home. That we did... with Gerdi and her little Bubi. Now Merlin
has a full-time Mom and a doggie friend to play with. Gerdi tells us that Merlin acts as
the perfect MMR Ambassador, greeting everyone in her neighborhood as if to let them know
that all rescue dogs as so special. Thank you, Merlin!

Egypt

Egypt is a 2.5 year old female whose former
owner had emphasema and other health problems, and could no longer keep her. Egypt was
used to cats and other dogs, but was shy with most people. When Egypt's new family, the
Hawns, met her, they saw how special she was. They introduced her to Sammy, who also liked
his new "girlfriend" (purely platonic, of course). The Hawns have experience
with a rescue Maltese and knew that it would take time and patience for Egypt to come out
of her shell. And it has been sooo worth it!

BamBam

A call came in to the MMR hotline from a
woman who needed to place her 9 y.o. Maltese named BamBam. She is unable to keep him
because she was caring for her senior mother. With her mother in a walker, it is too much
to have BamBam under foot. BamBam had been well-cared for all his life, and was a very
loving boy. A young teenage girl named Brooke, who had wanted a dog for a long time, lived
next door to BamBam's foster family. Brooke told her parents about wonderful BamBam. Mom
and Dad were skeptical until they met BamBam. As Joyce, Brooke's Mom, said, "It was
love at first sight. This is such a special boy." Even grandma, who lives with them
and is not a "pet person" is totally enamored of BamBam who spends a good part
of his day on Granny's lap and sleeps with Brooke at night. The rest of BamBam's day is
spent enjoying his wonderful new, forever, family!

Buddy

We received a call from representatives of Bichon Rescue
on L.I. They had a 2.5 year old Maltese-mix named "Buddy" who was an
owner-surrender to them. His original owners got a divorce and neither one could (or
would) keep him. They asked if we could take him into our rescue. Buddy's foster Mom
discovered that this was a very bright, friendly and energetic boy. Then we were lucky
enough to get an application from Renee and Ben, who had a house full of rescue animals
and hearts full of love. They could provide the love and playtime that Buddy needed. Buddy
is now a very happy boy!

P.J.

P.J.'s family had recently been through a divorce. PJ was
not given the time and attention that he used to, and started exhibiting some atypical
behaviors like "marking" in the house and fear of stairs. So P.J. became a MMR
foster and met Kathy, who fell in love with PJ on sight. PJ and Peanut, Kathy's cockapoo,
bonded instantly. PJ loved everyone in the family, but was particularly drawn to Kathy's
husband and 13 year old son. PJ must have felt that this was the stable, loving home he
craved. So PJ is now in his forever-after home. What's funny is, the housebreaking issue
immediately went away and he's no longer afraid of the stairs. Sometimes all it takes is
the right fit...

Rudy

He is a young boy, only 1.5 years old, very small, very
active and very needy! While Rudy got along with other dogs, he demanded all the
attention. We knew Rudy required a home where he would be the only dog and could be near
his human companions most of the time. When Mickey sent in her application, we knew
instantly that this was it! Mickey owned her own business and could have Rudy with her all
day long. Now Rudy is in seventh heaven, getting the attention he needs and deserves. And
Mickey tells us it's as if he has always been with her.

Sweetie

Sweetie (formerly "Hobo") was
taken in and treated by a shelter in NJ. The shelter staff and the vets said that this was
the worst case of neglect they had ever seen. Sweetie was of an indeterminate age (perhaps
8-10, hard to tell...) and he looked as if he had never been groomed in his life. He was
also timid with humans, yet he loved the company of other animals. We imagine that he was
used all his life as a stud dog, rarely getting love from humans. But Connie saw something
in him, a certain sweetness, and named him "Sweetie". Very soon after arriving
in her home his shyness and housebreaking problems started to disappear. We realize now
that the most distinctive thing about Sweetie is his intelligence. He is smart enough to
know when he was finally home. Here are Sweeties' "Before & After" photos.
