Cinderella

Cinder

Here is our Cinderella, also know as "Cindy". She was brought to a local shelter by a former owner with "no time". Her foster Mom knew when she saw her that this precocious, active girl who would be the perfect dog for an adopter with Cindy's zest for life! We found Susan who had a lovely backyard for Cindy to play in and a special friend, Gino, for a playmate! And the best thing is, Susan and Gino have LOTS of time for Cindy, because they love her so.

Kyra

Kyra

Kyra is a dear, mature lady with an age estimated to be well over 10 years. But our Kyra is definitely not "over the hill". She loves short walks outside as much as her "lap time". She was obviously someone's devoted companion for many years given her wonderful, gentle personality. Why someone would leave her at a shelter and just walk away, we'll never know. Their loss is her new family's gain. She now lives in Manhattan with two Mommies and a home with other dogs and even cats to play with. She really enjoys her gourmet meals, fixed lovingly just for her. Kyra will bring and receive joy every day for the rest of her life.

Felix

Felix

Felix came to us from a local shelter that had rescued him as a stray from the streets of NYC. We knew as soon as we met five year old Felix, that we had a potential match. Susan had submitted an MMR adopter application a few months earlier, but was in no rush as she was still grieving over the loss of her Sophie. Age, size and gender weren't so important to Susan, but a spirited personality and gentle disposition was. We were so impressed with Felix from the moment he walked out of that cage, we called Susan up late on a Friday night to ask... would you take him??? Well, she did. It didn't take long for her to know Felix was THE ONE!

Taxi

Taxi

Four year old, Taxi was an owner-surrender because he couldn't be housebroken. The former owner had lost patience and had been told by a "trainer" that toy breeds were hard to housebreak -- NOT TRUE in our experience. Taxi improved tremendously in the 2.5 weeks he was in foster, with consistent, positive reinforcement. Soon he was in his new home with Mary Ann and family in New Jersey, along with his new best friend, Riley. They are thrilled to have Taxi. He is thrilled to be in a home that would never "lose patience" because they know Taxi is something special!

Julie

Julie before Julie after

Six year old Julie came to us from a home in Queens -- what a horrible case of neglect! She had trust issues and would nip at anyone she didn't really know. As you can see from her "before" photo, she could barely see much less interact with new people. But Julie's foster Mom could tell that there was a sweet, loving little girl under all that hair and was amazed at the changes she saw in Julie's personality each and every day. Then we found Catherine who knew she needed to be patient with Julie. At their first meeting, it wasn't long before Julie gave Catherine a lick and was up on her lap getting gentle pets. Now Julie is in a loving home where she is taken to work every day, learning that there a many good humans she CAN trust. All she needed was a chance for her true self to come out. And look at her now!

Bogie and Bacall

B&B

Bogie and Bacall have shown us that sometimes life comes full circle. What great dogs these are -- Bogie is the frisky, super-friendly one who loves to play fetch, while Bacall is the demure little lady who will spend all day in a warm lap, both about 9 years old but you'd never know it. When we got an application from the manager of an assisted-living center in The Bronx, we knew this was IT for "B&B". While he is B&B's adopter, they spend their days in a place with a big enclosed patio/garden for them to play in and lots of folks to give them love and attention 24/7. They are so happy to be together. We knew if any dogs would thrive in this situation, it would be Bogie and Bacall. It's ironic that B&B were surrendered because their former owner had Alzheimer's and went to a home where she couldn't have dogs. So B&B have a profound understanding of how to live and love Senior people. This was a special adoption, one where two dogs got the best home and bring sunshine into so many lives.

Gisela

Gisela before   Gisela after

When some MMR folks went to a local shelter to meet a "Maltese-mix", they saw a shy girl who wouldn't even come to the front of the cage. What a transformation once she was out! We saw a friendly, loving, trusting girl with such beautiful eyes. We transported her to her foster parents, Jon and Carrie, and watched as she walked out of the car and straight into their hearts. They had no intention of adopting right away, but knew in an instant that fate had brought them all together. Yep, that's the way it happens sometimes and we are so thrilled for Gisela, Jon and Carrie. The photo on the left was taken of Gisela when she left the shelter and the one on the right was taken by Jon in her new home.
